A November to Remember in Springville

It’s November. Time to set back the clocks, bust out the sweaters and enjoy everything the area has to offer this time of year. If you’re looking for something to do, look no further than Springville and its surrounding communities for fun all month long.

Feed your creative side with art-related events this month.

Check out the  Artists of the Southtowns / Southern Tier, Works from the Gerald Mead Collection exhibit, presented by the Springville Center for the Arts (SCA). This exhibition consists of over 50 artworks by many of WNY’s most notable historic and contemporary artists that have been selected from Mead’s extensive collection. All of the artists included are former or current residents of the Southtowns or neighboring Southern Tier.

In addition, a special reception on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. will be open to the artists, concert ticket holders, members and the public. Mead will give a guided tour of the work on display. Refreshments and drinks will be served. Make an evening of it and attend the Ameranouche concert immediately following.

Check out the East Otto Country Holiday Open House this weekend, Nov. 5-6. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., take advantage of this opportunity to stock up on gifts made locally by local artisans.  You’ll find original watercolor and oil paintings, beautiful handmade stoneware pottery bowls, mugs, casseroles and more. Getting married or planning a big party? Don’t miss the Wedding and Party Supplies Flea Market and Vendor Expo on Nov. 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Springville Health and Fitness, 243 West Main Street in Springville. Here you’ll find all things wedding and party, including vendors such as photographers, printers and florists, as well as people selling their second-hand wedding wares, such as dresses, centerpieces and more.

Tuesday, Nov. 8 is Election Day. Head to your local polling place and vote!

Friday, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day and time to honor local heroes who have served our country.

Nov. 11-13 is Kissing Bridge’s Fall Fest, where you can stock up on skis, snowboards and gear for the season at their annual ski and snowboard swap. The festival also includes vendors and the giant air bag. For more info, visit kbski.com.

Fun for a great cause? That’s what the 2016 Wine Tasting and Silent Auction is all about. On Saturday, Nov. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Springville Health & Fitness. This year, the Springville-Griffith Community Education Foundation, Inc. (SGCEF) has selected the Boys & Girls Club of Springville in support of their SMART Moves Drug Prevention program as their major grant recipient. Visit the event Facebook page for more info.

On Friday, Nov. 18, stock up on tasty baked goods for the season at the BCH Women’s Association Bake Sale at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital. Cookies, cupcakes, pies and specialty baked goods benefit projects at the hospital and the Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home. Sale starts at 9 a.m. in the BCH administrative hallway.

For all the outdoor sportsmen and women, Saturday, Nov. 19 marks the opening day of regular deer hunting season this year.

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, Nov. 24. Spend your Thanksgiving morning with friends old and new at the annual Gobble for Groceries 4K run/2K walk. The Trading Post in Springville, located on Franklin Street, will host the fifth annual “Gobble for Groceries” 4K run/2K walk on Thanksgiving Day. Visit the event Facebook page for more info.

Support local businesses during A Very Merry Main Street, Nov. 25-26. This annual event gives shoppers the opportunity to check out local shops along Springville’s main drag, while getting a chance to win some great prizes. See the article on page 1.

Just up the street, at 243 West Main Street, Springville Health & Fitness will host their Annual Christmas Craft & Vendor Show for the Small Business Saturday event. On Nov. 26, check out a variety of vendors, and take advantage of great deals.

Shorter days and colder temps means it’s time to wind down from fall and ramp up for winter. Enjoy this in-between season with friends and family and pack your weekends full of November fun!
