The Griffins dropped a fourth quarter barn burner to Hamburg’s Frontier HS last Friday. After an exciting first half and solid defense in the third quarter, all heck broke loose in the final quarter of the game as Frontier put 13 points on the score board to Springville’s 12.

Springville drew first blood with a first quarter touchdown and looked to add another at the end of the first when CB Connor O’Brien picked off a pass from Frontier’s QB Dylan Kmitch on Frontier’s 30-yard line.

At the beginning of the second quarter, Springville forced another Frontier turnover on Frontier’s 20-yard line, but after the change of possession, Griffs  No. 24, Seth Dash, was injured on what looked like a great run. The ball was jarred loose and Frontier recovered on their 15-yard line.

The half ended with a game-tying touchdown by Frontier as they marched down the field completing a fourth-and-5 play for a first down and a run into the end zone by Kmitch.

The game could have gone either way as the Griffs looked determined to pull it out in the fourth. Springville is now 1-1 overall with a 1-0 league record. The Frontier game was a non-conference game. The next Griffins football game is at home, a conference league game vs. Pioneer on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
