It’s that time of year again! Springville Elementary School is hosting its Second Annual 3K/5K Color Fun Run/Walk, presented by Color-A-Thon/School-A-Thon. This event is open to the public, and will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, (homecoming weekend).

On-site registration will start at 9 a.m., with the event starting at 10 a.m. sharp. Two routes will be available to follow… one of the routes is a 3K (1.9 miles), and the other is a 5K (3.1 miles). During the fun run, participants will go at their own pace through the lovely rural town of Springville, all while getting covered head-to-toe in brightly colored, non-toxic, non-staining, food-grade cornstarch color powder by volunteer crossing guards, and at color stations. There are also water stations for refreshment along the routes. The SES PTA is in the process of coordinating vendors, music, and more at this time, with refreshments and healthy snacks provided by Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, and a special, celebratory “After-Blast” of color at the conclusion of the event, in which everyone opens their color packets and tosses them into the air, covering participants with even more rainbow hues!

PTA President and Color Fun Run/Walk Chair Melissa Frank states, “It was apparent immediately after our first Color Run event last year that we’d be doing it again in 2016; everyone who participated told us what a blast they had! The PTA has had an overwhelmingly positive response to this event.” She adds, “We’re really excited to bring a fundraiser to SES that incorporates health and fitness, along with some fun and color. The PTA provide the students with field trips, educational programs, school fun days, the book fair and basket raffle, holiday carnival, PARP, and so much more. We rely greatly on the funds that we are able to bring in through different fundraisers. These events are only made possible with the support of our student body, parents, faculty and community.  Please do consider supporting this event, either through participating, donating to our cause, or volunteering.”

Frank would like to thank the current sponsors of this event, on behalf of the PTA: Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, Metro Kirsch Real Estate, Mary’s Fireside Inn, Main Street Pizza, S&S Taxidermy, and Jamey Jean Photography. If you or your business are interested in helping to sponsor this event, there are many ways and sponsorship levels; email sammylynn1030@yahoo.com or melissametro@yahoo.com.

Volunteers are still needed for this event to run smoothly; people are needed for set-up, registration, crossing guards at intersections (they get to throw color!), water station/first aid, clean up, and general assistance. If you are interested or know someone who would be interested in volunteering, please email ashleeroseoakley@gmail.com.

Anyone participating will need to be registered to attend; registration is $30/person and comes with an official t-shirt, drawstring backpack, and one color packet (it is encouraged that children save their color packets for the After-Blast party, but it is not necessary). For every extra $30 earned, your child(ren) may add another participant to their “Color Team” and receive extra prizes. The school has a donation goal of $150/child. Children that attend SES (or anyone who would like to register) are encouraged to register online at http://shop.schoolathon.org/184049, group I.D. number 120327. Color Run packets are another registration option, and were sent home at the end of this past school year. Packet registrations are due to be turned in to your child(ren)’s teacher(s) no later than Friday, Sept. 9 to guarantee a t-shirt, race bag, and color packet for each participant.

The PTA hopes to see many smiling, rainbow-splashed faces at this lively and family-friendly event!
