The Springville-Griffith Institute varsity girls basketball team continued its winning ways on Tuesday night, Dec. 18, with a 68-23 victory over West Seneca West.

The girls started off slowly but quickly found their footing behind some tough plays by Grace Zabawa and Kelsey Zabawa. The sisters were relentless with their pressure and scoring ability, coach Bob Gainey noted, but the night belonged to Kenz Owens as she ran the high-powered Lady Griffs offense and contributed a game-high 18 points. Nyah Solly stepped in and gave great energy to go with her 10 points, Meg Rehrauer was “a beast on defense” and finished her layups to add 10 points.

Other scorers on the night included: Grace Zabawa (8 points), Kelsey Zabawa (8), Rachel O’Neal (4), Bella Oakley (4), Ivette Lewandowski (4) and Abby Steiner (2). Springville is now 4-1 overall and looks to stay undefeated when it travels to JFK on Thursday night.
