It might still be September, but the excitement of Oktoberfest is upon us. Springville’s very own German celebration is set for Saturday, Sept. 29, from 2 to 11 p.m. at Fireman’s Park.

This annual event, held rain or shine, features food, music and fireworks. Back for its 13th year, Springville’s Oktoberfest originated when board member Jeanne Ellis, who had spent some time in Germany, wanted to bring an authentic event to town. Ellis still helps organize many aspects of the event.

A sizable selection of German food includes sausages, brats, burgers, sauerkraut, German potato salad and pretzel rolls.  And of course, craft beers will be on tap, along with local wines.

Music by The Springville Jazz Band, The Frankfurters, Bob Scheile and Lee Ron Zydeco will have guests dancing or singing along.

Feed your competitive side by entering the Best German Costume, “Apfel” Dessert or the third annual Running of the Weiners contests.

From 2 to 5 p.m., enjoy the Southtowns German Car and Motorcycle Show.

Although Oktoberfest might sound like an adults-only event, it is, as always, family-friendly. “What many people don’t know is that there’s different music going on in different areas,” said Springville Chamber of Commerce director Ashley Zielenski. She noted that while some of the performances are held in the bar areas, there is still traditional German music and other activities going on in other areas not near the bar.

According to Zielinski, new this year is the Red Carpet VIP option for guest, which they can purchase at the event.

Gather your friends and family, and celebrate German culture at the annual Springville Oktoberfest next weekend. You don’t want to miss this fun-filled afternoon and evening!
