The Springville varsity girls volleyball squad traveled to North Tonawanda for the Section 6 Class B2 finals Wednesday, Nov. 6, and lost in three sets to Olean.

Olean held off a strong fight from Springville to win 25-14, 25-19, 25-22.

Marinna Heichberger and Ella Wittman set 25 assists to their teammates. Wittman had seven kills during the match, as did Rachel Stressinger, and Sara Ehlers had five.

Middle hitters Meghan Rehrauer and Melanie Barry defended their net with 9 blocks and 3 kills. Jillian Roggie and Kailea Sullivan played tremendous defense in the back row, coach Kristin Hughey noted.

Hughey thanked the busload of student fans who traveled to support the team and said her Griffins fought hard.

“Congratulations to the entire team for a wildly successful season,” she said. “Great work ladies! I can confidently predict that this young team will be back at finals again next year.”

Destiny Custer led Olean with 20 digs, three aces and three assists. Sophia Renaud had 30 assists, three kills and four digs, while Adele Dwaileebe had 13 kills and two aces.
