An event that began because a group of local runners who regularly attended Buffalo’s busy Turkey Trot suggested doing something local has quickly turned into a fun tradition that benefits their hometown area.
The annual Gobble Run now has over 250 participants and the benefits are felt for weeks after the event.
The run will be held Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, at the Trading Post, 38 Franklin St., Springville. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the race and walk starting at 9.
Instead of a traditional race entry fee, event organizers ask for a monetary donation for the Trading Post, which provides food items to local families in need. Thousands in the region are impacted as a result.
If participants cannot provide a monetary donation, they can also pay with a bag of non-perishable staple grocery items.
The fun, informal race splits for the 5K and the 2-mile fun walk from its starting point at The Trading Post.
The day includes a 50/50 raffle, basket raffle and t-shirt sale, all of which will benefit The Trading Post as well.
Awards will be given for male and female winners, over- and under-40, as well as several other non-traditional, fun awards.
