Here we are in the middle of December. How did the time go by so fast? While out around town checking off those last minute gifts for loved ones at local shops…

• Office exchange? Cheap Chollies candy cane filled of mini liquor bottles. Check!

• Sister/favorite cousin? Lulu Belle’s has that scarf you had an eye on and maybe that pretty bracelet that matches too just waiting for you. Check!

• Grandparents? Oh yeah, there was that lovely rustic sign at Springville Hardware and Homewear that will look amazing in the entryway. Check!

But what about that something for that someone, that hard to buy someone. That someone you swear every year you will find a unique and different and off the beaten path, personal gift for?

Right on the corner of the 219, check out Granny’s Boot Antiques, home of Grevpode Gallery located at 10761 Miller Road, Springville where a unique treasure is just waiting for you. Granny’s specializes in primitive rustic antiques and art but has a little bit of everything you can ever imagine. Baskets, sewing stands, masks, a seat made from a canoe. Or how about a Didgeridoo, an Australian wind instrument, for that hard to buy for someone?

Original art from local artists include wooden sculptures of animals and flowers, there’s also more traditional artwork on canvas and other folk art and paper art. And if the selection is just too delicious and eclectic to choose from, there’s always a gift certificate option, in any denomination you choose.

Gowanda Harley-Davidson, located at 2535 Gowanda Zoar Road, Gowanda, has much more than just big toys. Although how magical would it be to find a motorcycle next to the tree with a big red bow? Ah, to dream.

Shane Steward, GHD Marketing Manager says one of their most popular new products in their Made in America Store includes a Jack Daniels tin sign for $40. “I also recommend case knives, they are a great stocking stuffer and a must for Harley-Davidson lovers,” he said.

And for those looking for a more practical gift, why not a bottle of Diamond Finish. “This stuff is great! It’s a one-step clean polish and protect kit for all surfaces,” Steward said.

Other items in store include Gowanda Harley-Davidson 70th Anniversary commemorative gifts including T-shirts and poker chips, coffee mugs, barware, men, women and children apparel, ceramic hog banks, snow globes, ornaments, Santa hats and Christmas stockings (including logo ones with sequins!)

Chaffee Chick Design, located at 9715 Main Street in Machias (near Lime Lake), is a relatively new print and gift shop featuring everything from art supplies to paper, stuffed animals to garden flags, figurines to decals, and even marshmallow shooters!

One popular item is the All About Me! books for kids. What started out as a gift for her nieces and nephews is now a favorite book on Chaffee Chick Design’s shelves.  The store owner, Angela Wojcik, created this book and is teaming up with G. A. Foster Services by donating $2 from every book sold now through Christmas to the local foster care agency. Priced at only $5, these books are completely written, printed, produced and sold at Chaffee Chick Design.

Who can resist a 12”x48” long cardstock banner draped on the dining room table, inviting you to color in the outlines of the letters? “Greeting cards are nice,” explains Wojcik, “and I have those here too, but this is so much more fun! A banner is a big way to present someone with something special. I bet the person who receives it will hold on to it for a while.” And where else can you get one for only $5?  For more information and hours of operation, visit
