Being a woman means many things. It means working hard well beyond the typical work day. It means being a mother, a daughter, a wife, a sister, a friend. It means taking care of others, and let’s be honest, quite often forgetting or not leaving time to take care of yourself. In a world of constantly meeting work deadlines, driving carpools, refereeing kids and helping maintain a somewhat presentable household, treating yourself to a break every now and then is not only well-deserved but also important. Enter the Women’s Day Retreat, an upcoming event on June 16 organized by Jessica Raymond, owner of Colden’s rSpace yoga studio.

“The Women’s Day Retreat manifested from a conversation around the (rSpace) Juice Bar,” said Raymond. “A few of us ladies were just talking about our own self doubts, the inner critic inside all of our heads pointing the finger at all our so called short comings. It was amazing to notice the veil of shame remove itself as the conversation continued, forming realization that we’re not alone, we are not the only one sometimes struggling and more importantly we were enough. The Retreat Day is intended to renew, restore, and empower women to feel and find their best self with the support of friends, family and community. Throughout the day, women will have the opportunity to move in different style classes (fitness and yoga inspired), attend discussion groups, hands on workshops, visit our holistic health center, enjoy a cocktail with lunch, be pampered at our beauty bar and more!”

The Women’s Day Retreat will be held at the Pioneer Camp and Retreat Center, located at 9324 Lake Shore Rd. in Angola.

“In many ways, I feel like the location choose us!” Raymond said. “A friend shared a post with me highlighting the rock wall and fitness trails at the Pioneer Camp and Retreat Center as something to check out.  We were still on the search for the location of the Retreat at this point and as soon as I checked out their site, I knew it was the right place.”

Raymond further explained that with the overall idea of what the day would look like, she knew they wanted something needed waterfront (for Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga), that had plenty of outdoor space, but also indoor space in case it was needed for “plan B”. She was also looking for a place that was close enough for a day trip but also far enough away that guests truly felt like they were getting away.

“As soon as I stepped onto the campus the entire vision came together!” Raymond said. The entire campus is now reserved for the event.

The day is divided up into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning one has seven classes to choose from, with the afternoon one offering six. “The morning starts with a guided meditation and relaxation/ intention setting with Danielle from Blue Sky Wellness,” noted Raymond. “From there, we will have multiple classes going with a focus of either yoga or fitness at each time slot to satisfy everyone.”  There will be a live DJ to accompany Power Yoga, as well as POUND Fitness, Restorative Flow with Live Music, Partner Synergy Yoga, Belly Dancing for Beginners, BUTI Yoga, African Dance Class, Turbo Kick LIVE, Vinyasa Flow, SUP Yoga and Yin Yoga.

In addition to these classes, there will be discussion groups on various subjects like Silencing Your Inner Critic and Nutrition 101. Women will also be invited to the Holistic Healing Shelter — open all day — which will feature chair massages, reflexology, EFT Tapping, Reiki and Chakra Clearing.

“And as if that wasn’t enough to fill the day, we have a Beauty Bar where women can get their hair braided or styled, apply inspiring temporary tattoos, and meet with an esthetician,” Raymond added.

She noted that the Retreat is geared toward any and every woman. “We truly believe the message is beneficial for all!” she said. “With the variety of classes there is something for every fitness level from beginner to advanced, from yogi to fitness gurus.”

There is a range of ticket prices depending on the experience you are looking to achieve. There are a limited amount of VIP tickets for $100 being sold, which include all day access to classes, a morning mimosa, a swag bag filled with goodies, lunch and cocktail, first sign up for SUP yoga, and two holistic healing services for free. These tickets are $100.  There is also a $75 option that includes full day access to all classes and lunch, and a $55 option for a half day of classes (choose either morning or afternoon).  Visit the event Facebook page for more info and to purchase (

Ladies, what are you waiting for? You deserve some “me time” and this retreat is just the place to find it! “We are so honored to make this happen and to give a platform for such powerful healing to happen,” Raymond said.
