SPRINGVILLE — Austin Lux started the Springville-Griffith Institute varsity baseball season with a no-hitter on Tuesday, striking out 10 JFK batters in a 7-1 victory for the Griffins.
Springville scored its seven runs on just three hits, led by Mike Sobota’s two.
“I think obviously the beginning of the year the bats are always a little tough,” Springville coach Joel Lux said. “Whenever it’s cold, the ball, it just doesn’t fly.”
In addition to the complete game no-hitter, SGI also didn’t let JFK back in the game with defense, committing just one error.
“As far as one error, I thought that was really good,” Lux added. “We played good defense and whenever guys got in scoring position, whether wes sacrificed or we stole a lot of bases, we scored some runs.”
Later this week, SGI was set to play Wednesday at Eden, and visit Tonawanda on Friday.
