Leading off with a scoring 13-0 run, Springville jumped on Cleveland Hill early and didn’t let up on Friday, Jan. 4.

Kenz Owens buried two three-pointers and dished out three assists in the early 13-0 flurry.

Cleve Hill chipped away at the lead to trail by just 10 at halftime, but SGI stormed out of the locker room behind finishes by Kelsey Zabawa and jump shots from Ivette Lewandowski.

Owens led the team with 17 points, Lewandowski added 12 and Kelsey Zabawa scored 10. Grace Zabawa, meanwhile, led the defense.

“Time and time again she’s been called upon to stop the opposing team’s best player and she never disappoints,” coach Bob Gainey said. “Bella Oakley was a force on the glass and defensively as she altered many shots in the paint. Nyah Solly came in and gave great minutes as did Rachel O’Neal. Both girls were tenacious on defense and were hustling all over the court.”

Other scorers included Grace Zabawa (9), Meg Rehrauer (4) and Gracie Attebery (4).
