EAST AURORA — After finishing 2019 with the high note of winning its own holiday tournament, the Springville varsity girls basketball team opened the New Year with two narrow losses.
On Tuesday night, Springville dropped a 45-37 game in a hard-fought contest at East Aurora.
SGI fought back from an 18-point deficit but ultimately was outlasted by the Blue Devils.
“Mackenzie Owens was terrific as point guard and helped navigate the Griffs on the offensive side of the ball,” coach Bob Gainey said. “Nyah Solly was absolutely terrific on both ends of the floor, her hustle was outstanding all night.”
SGI (5-4) will look to bounce back when it hosts Cheektowaga on Friday night.
