SPRINGVILLE — The second-seeded Springville/Griffith Institute girls volleyball team advanced to the Section 6 Class B2 championship with a fourth-set victory over Depew on Monday.
The Griffins took a tight battle with Depew on scores of 25-19, 32-30, 19-25 and 25-23. Ella Wittman served for 14 points, had five kills and made 15 setting assists. Also for SGI, Rachel Stressinger had 25 passing assists and eight kills.
Springville was set to take on No. 4 Olean in the Class B2 finals on Wednesday at North Tonawanda. The winner of that match plays on Friday against the B1 champion in the state qualifier.


Springville 3, Albion 0

SPRINGVILLE — Springville won its first playoff match Friday night, beating Albion in three quick sets, 25-12, 25-22, 25-16.
All 11 teammates contributed to the win, with Ivette Lewandowski and Marie Emerling totaling seven kills from the right side, Rachel Stressinger and Sarah Ehlers smashing a total of 13 kills, and Ella Wittman with four of her own. Middle hitters Meghan Rehrauer and Melanie Barry put down three kills and 14 hits total. Jill Roggie and Kaleigh Sullivan controlled defense in the back row, while Marinna Heichberger and Sydney Fuller set for 12 assists.
