The Springville Lady Griffs varsity girls basketball team came away with a huge 49-25 victory over Maryvale Tuesday night at home.
The Springville girls (11-5) honored their five seniors (Rachel O’Neal, Jess Engel, Belle Oakley, Gracie Attebery and Ivette Lewandowski) by getting a win. The seniors started the game and held Maryvale scoreless over the first two minutes. The defensive success continued, holding a 21-9 lead at halftime, and SGI’s 17-point third quarter finished off the game.
Mackenzie Owens scored 13 points in the third and 19 total. Belle Oakley scored eight points, controlling the paint with blocked shots and rebounds. Ivette Lewandowski added eight points of her own.
Springville, winner of six of its last seven games, visits Pioneer on Thursday.

Ivette Lewandowski scored 22 points with five rebounds and Mackenzie Owens had 17 points and eight rebounds on Jan. 29 to lead the Lady Griffs to victory at home.
Springville started strong, leading 18-5 after the first quarter with 14 combined points from Lewandowski and Owens. The Griffs led by 8 at halftime, with coach Bob Gainey crediting “incredible” defense of Nyah Solly and Meg Rehrauer, holding EA’s top two scorers to seven points through the half.
EA cut the lead to one in the third quarter, but SGI pulled away as Owens scored 10 points in the quarter.
Lewandowski iced the game with seven points in the fourth and some solid free-throw shooting.
“Belle Oakley was terrific defensively and on the glass, she was strong all night long,” Gainey said. “Gracie Attebery hit huge free throws and played with a lot of toughness, and Rachel O’Neal once again gave great minutes on both ends of the floor.”
