Springville junior Wyatt Fuller goes through his diving warm-up during the NYSPHSAA swimming and diving championships Friday at Nassau County Aquatic Center.

On Friday, March 1, Springville’s Wyatt Fuller participated in the New York State Swimming and Diving Championships held at Nassau County Aquatic Center in Long Island.

In a field of 42 divers, Wyatt was able to place 28th overall. He scored well on his first four dives, but his fifth dive was not executed as he would’ve hoped, and in a meet such as this, consistency is key. This one error caused Wyatt to miss the cut-off for the next round by only 3 points, which in diving is extremely small.

Even with the end of the season not having been the highest of notes as hoped for, it is still a great accomplishment to have made it to the State competition with only have been on the diving team for three years when many of the athletes at the state meet have been diving for club prior to their time on the Varsity teams. Also, Wyatt has gone undefeated in all dual meets for SGI for his third season in a row and has finished as the second-best diver in all of Section 6 Athletics for the past two years now.

“It is extremely exciting to know that we will have one more year of watching this exceptional athlete achieve success,” assistant coach Ryan Dygert noted, “not only on the board but at being a positive role model and leader for his teammates as well.”
