The Springville varsity girls basketball team dropped its first home game on the season Monday night by a score of 61-40 to Eden.
The SGI girls had a tough time handling Eden in transition and struggled finishing possessions on the offensive end, coach Bob Gainey admitted.
“Despite the loss the girls had a couple positive moments,” Gainey said. “Kenz Owens did a great job navigating the offense and staying composed throughout a highly competitive game. Ivette Lewandowski and Grace Zabawa were tough to guard in the open court and Rachel O’Neal rebounded the ball extremely well off the bench. Lastly, Kelsey Zabawa was tough underneath with rebounding and finishing around the basket.”
Owens led the team with 14 rebounds.
Brooke Woodard paced Eden (13-2) with 18 points, six assists, six steals and four rebounds. Jessica Zittel added 14 points and Rachel Wach had nine points and nine boards.
The Griffins (11-5) are set to visit Alden on Thursday and Cleveland Hill on Saturday and play host to Tonawanda on Tuesday, Feb. 12 before the regular season finale the following night against JFK.
