Snowshoes are great for trekking over deep snow, and navigating wintry trails. But are they useful in a game of softball? Well, now’s your chance to give it a try! On Saturday, Jan. 27, it’s time for the 14th annual Springville Snowshoe Softball Tournament to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Springville.

Grab your friends and register a co-ed team for this double-elimination tournament of 6-inning or 45-minute games. This year’s tournament will be held at Sprague Brook Park, behind the tennis courts and by the sledding hill.

The event is for participants ages 18 and over, but all are welcome to watch and support a worthwhile cause. “The goal is to raise $8,000,” said Andy Bobseine, director of the Boys & Girls Club of Springville.  “All proceeds will help the Boys & Girls Club offset the cost of program supplies throughout the school year.”

Pizza, drinks, hot cocoa, coffee and desserts will be available for purchase.

“The event is the longest running snowshoe softball event in the Northeast!” said Bobseine. “Every year, local businesses and families participate and compete in this spectator-friendly event.”

Tournament registration donation is $500/team or $50/per player and includes snowshoe rental. Registration deadline is Saturday, Jan. 21.  Teams can register by contacting Bobseine at or via phone at (716) 829-9785.
