The Springville JV Griffins have hit a rough patch following a strong start to their 2018 season. Last week, the Griffs dropped a 32-0 decision to the Lackawanna Steelers.  Alex Elkins had an interception and Eric Pruitt led the team in tackles along with forcing a fumble.  Turnovers and offensive struggles were again the Achilles heel for Springville.

On Saturday, the Griffins lost to the Albion Purple Eagles 36 – 6.  The lone touchdown for the Griffins came on a 91-yard kickoff return by A.J. Slippy. Cole Baker led the Griffs with 38 yards rushing and connected on two passes to Alex Elkins for 32 yards.

A 30 point outburst in the 3rd quarter blew open a very tight defensive battle.  Eric Pruitt was all over the field recording 11 tackles and forcing three fumbles.  Rhett Butzer recovered two of those fumbles that were knocked out by Pruitt.  Jeff Heim and Devin Hitchcock each tallied a sack and several Griffins added tackles for a loss during the game.

The loss drops Springville to 1-4 on the season and boosted Albion to a 5-0 mark.  Springville with travel to Depew this Saturday to take on the Wildcats at 10 a.m.
