Pioneer 7, Springville 5

The Griffins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning — and added another in the fifth — to carry a 2-0 lead heading into the six inning.

Then both offenses woke up, but Springville ended up on the losing end with the Panthers scoring four in the sixth and three in the seventh in the 7-5 win at Concord Community Park.

Thursday, April 26

Maryvale 6, Springville 5

For the second time in as many games, the Griffins had a lead late in the game but let it escape — this time with a 6-5 loss to the Flyers in Maryvale.

Springville had a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning but Maryvale scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game and took the lead for good in the sixth.

Friday, April 27

Iroquois 5, Springville 3

Iroquois jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in their game at Concord Community Park. The win completes the sweep of Iroquois over Springville, as Iroquois won the teams’ first contest, 6-4, on April 11.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Iroquois but was switched to make up for a switch earlier in the season when conditions at the field were too wet and the teams played at Iroquois.

Shaun Wright and Matt Evans each recorded two hits in the loss for the Griffins. Ty Sibiga, Mike Sobota and Austin Lux each tallied an RBI.

Monday, April 30 (Doubleheader)

Lake Shore 5, Springville 2

Lake Shore 8, Springville 2

The Griffins lost a pair of games Monday at Lake Shore by scores of 5-2 and 8-2.

In the first game, Jarrett Wolf, Dan Robertson, Shaun Wright, Ty Sibiga, Cody Wells and Austin Lux all tallied a hit. Wolf and Evan Elkins recorded the 2 RBIs in the game.

In the second game, Wright recorded two hits and Collin Rice, Wells and Lux each had one.

Tuesday, May 1

Springville 10, Cleveland Hill 1

An explosive six-running first inning for Springville propelled them to their second win of the season on Tuesday at Concord Town Park.

The Griffins scored in four of their six innings including a two-run fifth inning.

Cleveland Hill scored the game’s first run in the top of the first inning but didn’t tally another score the rest of the game.


Friday, April 27

Springville 19, Pioneer 9

Nick Emmick threw 5 2/3 innings and tallied 8 strikeouts and allowed only six hits in the victory for the Griffins. Eighth grader Garrett Walker went 3-for-4 with two doubles and eight RBIs and Ty Dash and Keaton Wnuk both scored four times for Springville.

Monday, April 30 (Doubleheader)

Springville 10, Depew 2

Springville 13, Depew 3

The JV Griffins got their doubleheader against Depew off to a good start with a 10-2 win.

In the first game, Austin Walker went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, Nick Emmick went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and Austin Boies scored two runs. On the mound, Ryder Hoffman allowed three hits and two earned runs in five innings.

In the second contest, Ty Dash went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBIs and Hoffman, Emmick and Garrett Walker all had 2 RBIs in the victory. Emmick pitched five innings, striking out four and allowing two hits and three earned runs.

“All around everyone played well, we kept making contact with the ball,” said coach Adam Wolfley. “We continued to have great at bats and hitting the ball hard where the other team wasn’t.”
