Two $400 scholarships have been awarded to area seniors by the Springville Area Ministerium. Applicants had to be a part of a local church and needed to showcase a talent that would be used in their faith-walk. The Springville Ministerium is proud of these young men.
Robert Clark learned to sing and use his talent at the Springville Crossing Church. Clark was a strong athlete while attending Springville-Griffith Institute, but was sidelined due to an injury. “During this difficult time, instead of getting too down, I actually discovered new gifts that God blessed me with that I never even knew I had,” he said. “Being away from sports and discovering these new gifts really put everything into perspective and helped me to realize that I have God to thank for everything that I am blessed to be able to do.”
Clark plans to attend West Virginia University where he will major in advertising/public relations.
Chandler Edbauer attends St. Aloysius in Springville.
“What it means to be a Franciscan resonates with me,” he said. “I love to help people, especially the poor, whether it be poor of heart, mind or poor in wealth.”
Edbauer will attend Siena, a Franciscan school in Albany, where he will major in international business and Pre-Law.
“They have so many outreach programs and I am going to be involved in a lot of them,” he said. “I already started interviewing service locations for what they call the ‘Bonner program,’ in which I provide service for a non-profit every week for a certain amount of time. I cannot wait to get started.”
