Girls JV Volleyball, coach Robert Gainey
The JV Girls Volleyball team opened their season in thrilling fashion with a big win over Ellicottville on Monday morning by a score of 2-1. The girls dropped a tough first game by a score of 25-17. In game number two, the girls showed what they’re capable of by passing the ball extremely well and keeping their serves in bounds; that game saw the Lady Griffs win 25-19. In the decisive third game, the team needed a big lift to come back from a 21-15 deficit. That spark was provided by the outstanding serving of Sara Ehlers. With her strong play from behind the service line and overall improved effort from the team, the girls took a 24-23 lead. After surrendering the next point the ladies took the final two points to win 26-24. Outstanding performances were turned in by Emily Ehlers, Abby Stressinger, Alyssa Hunter, and Ivette Lewandowski. The team opens up league play when they host JFK on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
